Many people are under impression that working with fondant is super hard and should only be used by experienced cake decorators. Well I disagree, some times I find that it is easier to work with fondant rather than icing. Obviously working with fondant becomes increasingly easy with more practice, however looking at the end products of fondant cakes can be a bit intimidating. That shouldn't stop you from experimenting with fondant and being creative with it. Also do not let the variety of fondant tools overwhelm you, there is only one tool that you need to perfectly cover the cake (besides a rolling pin) and that is this fondant smoother. This smoother (as seen to the right) is a complete game changer, not only does it help make an overall smooth appearance but it also makes the corners more smooth for a nicer polished finish.
Truth be told, this was actually the first cake that I was confident enough to cover with fondant. At first I was very nervous to try fondant, but after playing around with it and properly learning how to handle it, I become confident enough to cover a whole cake with it and make a few flowers. The fondant flowers on this cake make it a bit more complex but it adds to the simplicity of the overall cake. Good luck making this cake and feel free to contact me if you would like to order it or if you have any questions!
