After seeing many variations of the basket weaving cakes, I decided to try another "Basket of Flowers" cake but this time with a bouquet of flowers. This cake could have been made any kind of flowers, or even a combination of different flowers but I was making this cake for a family friend of mine and I know for a fact that she loves Calla Lilies. I recently learned how to make Calla Lilies from a Wilton cake decorating class. They are very simple to make if you have the right tools and can even be stored for a long time. These flowers need to be made ahead of time because of the drying time. I would recommend allowing them to dry for a few days before using them. I found that they tend to break if handled before fully dried. The flowers are commonly white but I wanted to add more color to the cake so I decided to make a few in a light purple shade.

This is also the first time I attempted a double colour basket weave with a thinner vertical line. The common way to basket weave is to use the the basket weave tip for both the horizontal line as well as the vertical line, usually in a light copper color. This time I decided to take a risk and try two different colors and with a much thinner vertical line using tip #3. My original plan to leave steams on the cake but right before I placed the bouquet on the cake I realized that the stems didn't look the way I wanted them to. So like always, I turn to my pink ribbon to save the day. I wrapped the pink ribbon around the stems to make a more bouquet look and carefully let it down to complete the cake. Good luck making this cake and feel free to contact me if you would like to order it or if you have any questions!
