In my head, the chocolate box trend can never die because there are so many different variations of the basic idea. I know that everyone does the basic KitKat or chocolate wafers border around the "box" but I wanted to explore other options. The original idea for this cake actually came to me as I was strolling down the isles of Costco and came across these rolled wafers. These chocolate hazelnut rolled wafers gave me such a nostalgic feeling as I have memories of fighting my older sister to share these mouth watering rolled wafers when we were younger. As soon as I saw these wafers again, a light bulb went off in my head and I had the idea of making a cake with these wafers as the surrounding border.

After waiting for the perfect occasion, I finally had the opportunity to use the wafers for a cake. I was asked to make a cake for a friend of mine and I knew how much she loved M&M candies and just knew I had to incorporate them in the cake somehow. After a bit of Pintrest searching I came across this photo (to the right) that had the classic KitKat border and then it hit me, I should make my friend a box of chocolate cake with M&M chocolate candies on top and surround the cake with the rolled wafers. As much as I love KitKat bars, I feel like this idea of KitKat surrounded cakes was done too many times and I wanted to take a risk and experiment with new ideas. I wanted to create a tied bow kinda effect to the cake and using the same kind of bow from my first box of chocolate cake, I created a loosely tied bow around the base of the cake to complete the look. Good luck making this cake and feel free to contact me if you would like to order it or if you have any questions!
