Tea Party Cake

As soon as I decided to have a tea party themed birthday, my first concern was what was I going to do for the cake? After planing all the other aspects for the party, the very last thing to do was to design my cake. I browsed through Pinterest and Instagram to spark some inspiration for the cake and after browsing through tons of beautiful cakes, these two were by far my favorite tea party themed cakes. (click on the pictures to find the links)
The more I searched, the more I discovered that most of the "Tea Party Cakes" were two tier or more. To be honest, this was one of my first 2- tiered cakes and it that is what was the most difficult part of this cake. The only thing I forgot to plan was were to place the candle (that is why it is just hanging out the tea pot)
All the flowers on the cake were actually made in advance. Some of which are reused from my previous cakes (meaning they didn't make the final cake but were pretty enough not to throw out). The colours also fit with the color scheme of my party, which were pastel pink and purple.
In the examples I found online, they all made the tea pot out of cake and fondant. I didn't have the time nor the skill to pull of an edible tea pot. However, it is 100% possible to make a teapot I just chose not to. When looking for a tea pot to use, I had to find one that was big enough to be the center piece of the cake but light enough not to sink the cake. I found the perfect one here while shopping for my party.
I covered the entire cake with fondant to give the cake a smooth finish look. To achieve the "table cloth" look for the second layer of the cake I used the Wilton Quilt Roller. I loved how easy it was to use this roller to make the cake look like it there is a table cloth over the cake. If you look closely, you can see that I accidentally placed the "table cloth" layer the wrong way (the lines were supposed to be the other way) but it still provided the cake with the nice finish I desired. Good luck making this cake and feel free to contact me if you would like to order it or if you have any questions!
