This idea of a chocolate box has been flouting around the internet for quite a while. The design never really caught my attention until I came across a version that had chocolate dipped strawberries on top. For those of you that don't know, chocolate and strawberries is probably one of the best combinations because it is the perfect mix of both classic sweet and savory flavors.

This cake is far from ordinary, not only is the cake chocolate covered with a layer of chocolate icing but in the middle of the cake there is a layer of fresh strawberries. Preparing this cake is very easy, all you have to do is cut the cake in half, spread a layer of icing (thick or thin) and then place the strawberries in the middle. (As seen in the picture to the right) That way when you cut the cake, the middle is also filled with savory goodness. The chocolates that I choose to use for this cake were based on my sister's preferences, because this cake was for her birthday, but I feel like the Maltesers chocolate on the top really ended up adding to the overall look (and taste) of the cake. However, you can make his cake using any combination of chocolates, not just the ones that I used for this cake. For example, you can use Kit-Kat bars for the side of the cake rather than the chocolate wafers that I used. Honestly, it depends on the taste of the people who the cake are for, this design is very flexible.
For this specific cake, I wanted to do more than just dip the strawberry into chocolate like the original design had. So instead I topped the cake with fresh strawberries that I cut into rose shapes. I actually got the idea from this blog that showed the step by step instructions on how to prepare the strawberries into beautiful roses. I highly recommend watching the video that comes with the recipe because it is honestly a lot easier to follow along the video than following the written down instructions. Obviously the bow is not edible, but after I finished the cake, I realized that the cake was missing an extra touch, If I had more time I would have made an edible bow using fondant or something of that sort. But because of my time restraint, I had to use what I had and I ended up using a simple ribbon to tie around the base of the cake. I am actually very happy about the finished product, both the look and the taste of course! Good luck making this cake and feel free to contact me if you would like to order it or if you have any questions!
