Every family that bakes always has that "go to" classic chocolate-chip cookie recipe. Normally you believe that your family recipe is better than everyone else's version and I used to think that too until I took a bite of this cookie. A friend of my mother made these cookies and gratefully offered some to us. I took one bite and fell in love love with them. As soon as I finished my first cookie, I needed to get the recipe and make these delicious recipe for myself.
Once I had actually had a copy of the recipe, I realized how easy and simple it really was, not to mention the numerous amount of variations this one recipe has. I personally love this recipe with just the chocolate chips, however if you love this recipe but want a healthier alternative you can substitute the chocolate chips with 2 cups of raisins, coconut shavings or even chopped walnuts. The base of the dough is very flexible and can perfect for different kinds of cookies. (but lets be real, chocolate cookies are the best of all cookies)
This recipe is simple and can be easily done at any given moment. (which just adds to the perfection of this cookie) The first thing you might notice about this recipe is that it uses both white sugar and brown sugar. The difference between the two sugars is that brown sugar contains molasses. The molasses in the dough helps to attract moisture, thus allows the cookies to stay moist and chewy longer which is an important component to this recipe.

First thing to do for this recipe is to gently combine the two sugars and then slowly add in the softened butter (or margarine) and combine really well. Originally, this recipe calls for either butter or margarine. While margarine is sometimes great because of its conveniences, its not always great in recipes. Although this recipe would work with both, I personally prefer to use butter for this specific recipe.
Once the sugar and the butter is creamed well together, slowly crack the eggs into the batter. (if your a little nervous about cracking eggs straight into the batter, crack them in a separate bowl first and then pour it into the batter). Beat on medium speed until the ingredients are creamed together, making sure to scrap the edges of the bowl with a spatula to ensure all of the batter is being mixed.

Reduce the speed and slowly add in the dry ingredients, first the baking soda, salt and then lastly the flour. Continue mixing on full speed until all the ingredients are well combined (as seen above)
Only after making sure the sides of the bowl are scraped down and all the ingredients are blended should you add the chocolate chips (or the other variation of your choice) Slowly mix in the chocolate chips, making sure they are all evenly distributed across the entire batter.
Using a rounded teaspoon or spoon, drop rounded balls of the dough onto greased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. (as seen in the picture to the left) Bake in the oven from about 10-12 minutes at about 350° F.
Note that these cookies may start to burn if left in oven for too long so keep a close eye on the time for these cookies! Remove from the baking sheets immediately and allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack. Enjoy the cookies and I hope you try out this super yummy and easy recipe with your family.
